Before the War
Winston Churchill was born on November 30, 1874. He was prime minister during 1940-45, 1951-44. As a child he was quite a rebellious student. He id poorly in school and was sent to Harrow School, a boarding school near London. Weeks into his enrollment he joined the Harrow Rifle Corps, putting him on a military path. In 1900 Churchill became a member of the conservative party for Oldham, near Manchester. He was elected a member of parliament in 1908, and appointed to be prime minister's cabinet s president of the board of Trade. |
During the War
Initially Winston Churchill did not see the threat that Adolf Hitler posed, and by 1938 Germany began controlling its neighboring countries. Churchill did not the idea of British Prime minister Neville Chamberlain's plan of appeasement towards the Nazis. When Britain declared war on Germany, Churchill was made a member of the war cabinet. He continued to grow in military leadership and eventually was made minister of defense in 1951 - 1952. |
